Towing a Flicka on a Trailer 1
QUESTION I am purchasing a Flicka and am interested in what rigs (truck/trailer) have been used successfully by others? Suburban or larger? Colin Fraser
REPLY #1 We've recently purchased a Flicka in Seattle. Trailered the boat back to Colorado (Approx. 1400 miles). We had no trouble using a F-350 Ford Superduty. Hardly knew the boat was back there. I would really recommend using a weight distributing/equalizing hitch. These are available from Drawtight and worked wonderfully.
We opted for electric brakes since the hydraulic ones sometimes come ON when descending slopes... I can't tell you how these new brakes will work once we've gotten them wet (submerged). Note that the trailer purchased from 'Trailrite' (sold as a 'ready to load' unit), required extensive modification once we tried to put the boat on it. This was not a very easy process.
Thankfully we had a very understanding and skilled lift operator and helpful staff at Coast Marine (They were fantastic). Once it was loaded, things worked very well. Good Luck.
REPLY #2 We tow well with a full-size dodge van (2500) with a 5.9L v-8, towing package, and 4.01 rear axle ratio...does slow down to 45 mph on long steep grades, but otherwise does fine (low gas mileage of course)... Mike Nelson
REPLY #3 I have used both a gas 1500 series suburban and a diesel 2500 series suburban with no problems. The trailer is a custom tandem axle with six support pads and surge brakes on both axles. So far all my towing has seemed to go well. I would recommend at least a V-8 with a long to moderate wheel base. Coy
