The original FLICKA SAILBOAT HOME PAGE was created in 1998 by Rod Bruckdorfer. When this was first written (July-2001), there had been more than 180,000 hits on Rod's page. A long time Flicka owner, Rod has spent a considerable amount of time "under the hood" of a Flicka. He invested thousands of hours rebuilding his Flicka s/v AFRICAN MOON .

He decided to go cruising and reluctantly decided that his beloved Flicka would be too small to accommodate the supplies required for his long term cruising plans. He began searching for a larger sailboat and selected another strong design, the Bristol Channel Cutter.

As he had done with his Flicka, the sailboat was thoroughly reconditioned and refitted. A couple of the projects include removal of the bowsprit and refitting it; refinishing the mast and many others. One thing is certain, his new sailboat s/v
IDUNA, will be well founded and in fine shape, even bristol. I'm sure that others will consider his new sailboat a proper yacht.

With his cruising departure looming, he needed someone else to take on the task of monitoring the Flicka Home Page. In 2001, Rod asked if I'd consider taking on the role of WebCaptain and  I agreed.

In June 2001, I began converting the Flicka Home Page from Rod's format to one that my software created which changed the appearance and format. The original information was retained to the greatest degree possible.

The biggest change is the elimination of the Flicka Home Page Bulletin Board. After discussing this with Rod, we agreed on the YAHOO Flicka 20 Group created by Hal DeVaney.  The main reason was that the
YAHOO Flicka 20 Group allows storage of messages with more than 8,500 listed at this time (January 2006). The original Flicka Home Page provider had a limit of only 100 messages.

During February of 2006, the Flicka Home Page was moved from a local internet provider to an internet hosting service. The file transfer took roughly two months of my spare time.

Along the way, all of the 300 web pages were reviewed and each of the links were modified for the new internet location. Some of the changes reduced the "bandwidth" of the Flicka Home Page and should improve downloading speed.

It is my hope that my tenure at the helm of the Flicka Home Page will approach the quality that  Rob Bruckdorfer maintained. My goal is to continue developing the Flicka Home Page and to increase the amount of Flicka information on this web page.

If you have a project, photo or other Flicka related information, please consider forwarding it. Since I am also the editor of the Flicka Friends Newsletter (now an e-magazine delivered by e-mail as a PDF attachment), the information you send to the newsletter or web page could have several outlets.

The move offered a number of advantages, which include:

Domain Name (
flicka20.com), increased storage space from 20 MB to 750 MB, monthly transfer of 15 GB, adding Flicka Friends issues to Flicka Home Page, a web hit counter, 24 hour tech support and lower cost.

Hopefully, the Flicka Home Page will continue to provide Flicka
information of all sorts to those who own, crew or are interested in Bruce P. Bingham's fine little yacht...the Flicka.
