Flicka Friends is a newsletter written for the people who own,
crew aboard or are interested in the Flicka, a 20 foot sailing vessel designed by Bruce P. Bingham.

Based on the Newport boats of Block Island Sound, this little ship has been built from various materials from the 1970's. This includes Flickas constructed from plans obtained directly from Bruce's California office. About 400 sets of plans were sold. According to Bruce Bingham, many Flickas can be found in New Zealand Australia and Sweden.

A number of hulls were built by Nor'star and some were completed by Westerly Marine. The manufacturer of the bulk of the class is Pacific Seacraft Corporation who built 434 hulls in  California.

Flicka Friends is published on a quarterly basis, with issues being mailed in March, June, September and December. Articles, letters, comments and photos relating to the Flicka are welcomed and encouraged.  See the following page for more information.

With the publication of the Spring 2008 issue of Flicka Friends, there have been 43 newsletters published totaling 537 pages containing 189 articles and 858 images.

BACK ISSUES
Before 2004, the existing back issues of Flicka Friends were all located on the Yahoo Flicka20 Group. In Spring of 2004, the remaining issues of Flicka Friends were converted into Adobe Acrobat format. This presented a space problem for the Yahoo Flicka20 Group Web Page. The Flicka Friends issues currently require 30 MB of computer file space and would fill much of the available file space.

Hal DeVaney offered computer file space for the back issues and they were placed on his server for 2005 and 2005. My thanks to Hal for his assistance.

In 2006, The Flicka Home Page was moved to a server with a domain:
http://www.flicka20.com

The new domain allowed 25 times the storage space and provided more than enough room for all of the back issues. Best of all, the Flicka Home Page would now contain all of the Flicka Friends back issues. Everything is now in one place on the internet.

Links to all of the Flicka Friends back issues can be found on the following page.

Flicka Friends History

FLICKA FRIENDS -- First Editor -- 1995 to 1998
Flicka Friends is the class newsletter for the Flicka, a twenty foot sailboat that was designed by Bruce P. Bingham.  This newsletter was first published in 1995 by Dennis Pratt. He was the editor and publisher for Flicka Friends until Summer of 1998

FLICKA FRIENDS -- Second Editor -- 1998 to 2008
During 1998, Dennis Pratt asked Tom Davison to take over the publication of the newsletter. He was the editor from 1998 until the Spring 2008 issue. During this time, the following changes were made:

CHANGE FROM PAPER TO INTERNET
The biggest change to the newsletter happened in 2001. Instead of gathering articles and photos to generate a final copy and then having the newsletter photocopies for mailing., the newsletter was created in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format or PDF. This allowed a number of things to happen and possibly the best was that the issue was now in full color. This was clearly much better than a photocopy and could be sent on the internet.  This also saves the time spent collating, folding, labeling and stamping each newsletter. Best of all, more of my time could be spent working on the newsletter.

FREE NEWSLETTER
The best part about going to the internet was the elimination of printing and mailing costs. Instead of $10.00 per year, Flicka Friends is now free. Even better is the simple fact that the newsletter is in full color, something not possible before changing to Adobe Acrobat.

ADOBE ACROBAT
Since the Flicka Friends newsletters that you download are in PDF format, you need to download (free) Adobe Acrobat Reader from the Internet. You can reach the web page for downloading Adobe Acrobat Reader by clicking on the yellow "Get Acrobat" icon located in this page.

FLICKA FRIENDS -- Third Editor --2008
Daryl Clark will be the editor of Flicka Friends. He proof read the Spring 2008 issue of Flicka Friends and will be publishing the Flicka Friends Summer 2008 issue.  If you would like to forward a photo or article for the newsletter, you can contact him at:
