In 1995, Dennis Pratt decided to begin publishing a newsletter for the Flicka. Named Flicka Friends, the newsletter has been in publication for ten years.
Initially, the subscription newsletter ($10.00/year) was a black and white photocopy with occasional color issues. The printing run was limited and difficult to obtain after mailing.
In 1998, Dennis Pratt asked me to take over the tiller of the Flicka Friend and create each issue. Since then, the articles and images are placed in the newsletter on my computer. A draft Adobe Acrobat PDF file is sent to Dennis for final proof-reading. The last corrections are made and the newsletter is published.
After a number of years, the newsletter changed from paper to an Adobe Acrobat PDF file. There were several immediate advantages for this move:
The first was the elimination of an annual fee for Flicka Friends. The second and most important was the ability to provide everyone with a full color newsletter that they can print at home. This meant that everyone could enjoy the images of Bruce P. Bingham's fine little yacht in full color. It also meant that new Flicka owners could get a complete set of the newsletter.
The older issues were scanned into Adobe Acrobat files. Initially, these newsletters were placed on the Galveston Yacht Club's web page due to Hal DeVaney (thanks!). He suggested that the Flicka Home Page consider his Internet Host.
In January of 2006, the Flicka Home Page was moved to a hosting service at www.flicka20.com. This provided the space needed to put the entire web page, along with the newsletters in one location.
