Site History

This web site began as a page set up by Rod Bruckdorfer in 1998 and developed a strong following under his watch as Web Captain. In the summer of 2001, Rod Bruckdorfer asked Tom Davison to consider taking over the Flicka Home Page while he was away cruising. Having just completed a web page for the Flicka Friends Newsletter, Tom accepted and the information on Rod's pages was transferred.

In early 2006 Tom moved the Flicka Home Page to a new server. The new domain and server increased the file space from 20 MB to 1 GB and allowed 20,000 GB in monthly bandwidth.  This led to savings of 80%.

By 2008, the Flicka Home Page was about 70 MB in size with approximately 380 pages. This included all issues of Flicka Friends, the Flicka Sailboat Class newsletter. This newsletter completed it's tenth year of publication in 2005.

Possibly the biggest change with the transfer of the Flicka Home Page to the new host in 2001 was the elimination of the discussion board. There is another discussion board on the internet that offers more options than the one used by Rod. Hal DeVaney created a Flicka bulletin board on Yahoo in October of 1999. Currently, there are more than 8,600 Flicka related messages posted on the Flicka 20 Group, along with a variety of files, photos and links. The Yahoo Flicka group gained in popularity as the forum for Flicka owners and discussions ranged from bleeding engines to Flicka rendez vous.

YAHOO Flicka 20 Group

Currently there are over 700 members of the Flicka Yahoo group.

The Flicka web site was taken over in March 2008 by Angus Beare. The new web site is driven by a powerful open source content management system called Dotnetnuke.  The server is US based in Douglas, MA.  The aim is to switch over to the new site this summer.

The aim of the new site is to utilise modern web systems to provide a more powerful medium for the Flicka communtiy.
