Today I took Nomad out for a little shakedown after servicing my outboard. Sure enough, 100 feet in front of a nasty lee seawall, it died.
In 15 knots of wind.
I was quick to hoist the jib, and Nomad turned around...I usually sail her into her slip for just such situations.
After a bit of work I determined the trouble was with the external fuel tank. I verified this by filling the internal tank, and running the engine in reverse (loading it) for 20 minutes in my slip. Since it didn't stall, I knew I'd isolated the problem.
There is no substitute for good seamanship. Practice sailing.
