The Friends of Bruce Bingham, Boca Ciega Yacht Club Division, will celebrate his
70th birthday on the evening of March 9, 2010. We would love to have you join
us.

The open-house style party will begin at 7:00 PM at the Boca Ciega Yacht Club,
4600 Tifton Drive South, Gulfport, Florida. We'll have beer & snacks available,
and a birthday cake.

There will be a slide show about Bruce's life, and a blank book where you can
write your best wishes for many more. Of course Bruce will be there so you can
wish him happy birthday, and wax nostalgic about great landfalls and beam
reaches of the past.

If you will be off sailing the Pacific, or if you're leaving for the Bahamas
that evening, I will be glad to insert your cards, letters, or printed E-Mail
into the book as a souvenir presentation to Bruce. For more information, write
to me at this e-mail address:

Re: Bruce Bingham's 70th Birthday Party

Question: can Bruce confirm this story? Did he sell the plug for the mold to Nor'star Marine, and then receive the first bare hull out of the mold, in lieu of designer fees? Did he have the hull sitting upside down in Costa Mesa and then selling it to Steve Ward, about 1974?
If this sounds correct about the origins, then I am the proud current owner of hull number 1. After the sale to Steve W, the hull was uprighted, placed on a trailer, taken to Northern CA, and over a period of years built up according to modified plans. Steve Ward's building job was top notch, and the finished job was launched in Santa Barbara around 1982. I am about the 5th owner (having purchased in 2001). I will be happy to provide pictures of the upgrades that have been done since '01 (including an Yanmar 1-GM installation "from scratch".
Back to question in line one above: is this account basically correct about the first hull from Nor'star?
