Greetings all. Very pleased to join the ranks. Have had the good fortune over the past few years to sail this particular boat so when the recent opportunity to purchase her came up, we were jazzed to say the least. Almost ended up with a Cornish Shrimper which would have been a great boat too but think that the real accommodations down below in a Flicka will suit us better long term. Travel plans are very modest. Just intend to putter about our home waters surrounding Orcas Island.
Boat projects to include the fitting of a SARDINE stove and perhaps the smallest NANNI diesel inboard. Like the current Merc. 9.9 outboard well enough but stoves & gas engines are a bad pair. Things have chilled-off here as with the rest of the country so will be getting into over-Winter-maintenance-mode. Anyone out there with a solid fuel stove aboard (beyond a dickinson newport)?

Re: S/V Erica #235

Hi Andrew and welcome to the group and to Flicka ownership!

there is a record in the database of a Flicka called Erika which I assume is yours??

If you have a the time I'd really like to get the DB updated. So please follow the instructions here:

www.flicka20.com/Data/Flickabase/FlickabaseListingInfo/tabid/785/Default.aspx

Also we'd all love to hear about your projects and experiences with Erica. You might find it helpful to start blogging with Windows Live Writer which makes the process
as easy as typing a document in Word. Once you're set up it's a breeze. For more info, see here:

www.flicka20.com/Blog/tabid/749/EntryId/41/How-to-Get-Started-Blogging-with-Windows-Live-Writer.aspx

I'm interested in hearing more about your choice of engine. There is another Flicka called Pinocchio that has one of the newer 2 cylinder Nanni diesels and goes really well.
As for stoves many of us have the alcohol ones from Origo which do the job pretty well.

thanks

Re: S/V Erica #235

Howdy Gus,

Got LIVE writer set up last night and it seems pretty straight forward. Happy to update the database one of these days. Yes, that's the boat.
S/V Erica will likely get a name change in the not so distant future. The last owners inherited it and left it be but I cannot say
I have any particular attachment to it. The hesitancy to change a boat's name could perhaps be attributed to not wanting to separate
the public identity that a hull builds for itself over time from the boat itself irregardless of this or that temporary owner. Continuity is a good thing however and I guess
I fell in love with Erica not Hull 235. But I do keep asking myself who is Erica? As far as adding motive iron or heating iron to the boat is concerned....
As I build traditional stoves for a living, that will follow rather shortly and I plan to chop out the two burner countertop unit and replace it with a one cubic foot all cast iron SARDINE.
Its never too hot in our neighborhood and the radiating dry heat from a solid fuel stove can't be beat. Quick kettle boiling during the warm months can be accomplished with one of our drop in burners for alcohol. There's a dandy BIG wood storage area behind/aft the enclosed head that would come available if one did not have too many head sails to stow. Roller furling would help on this account. Seems like the ideal battery of headsails to get together is a furling/reefing genoa, storm on removable inner forestay and a drifter. Have any contact info for Pinocchio re their NANNI? Will be interesting to get their feedback. The Aqua Drive ala Angus' install would be a wise choice to do at the same time. The issue of transferring drive to the hull itself rather than the motor mounts seems like a no brainer. Nanni vs. Beta vs. Yanmar 1GM10 also one of these days too. Trying hard to not get sucked down the rabbit hole of big projects & big dreams....just goo the split tiller and get out of Dodge for a day or two.

Cheers, A / NSW

Re: S/V Erica #235

Hi again Andrew

well done getting Live Writer set up. It sure does help. I look forward to hearing about your progress and updating the DB. When I bought Caraway I didn't really consider changing her name because she had always been Caraway and that's how people knew her. Changing her name didn't seem right and of course, in the UK it's bad luck..

I really like the look of your stoves and look forward to hearing about the installation.

It is me with the Aquadrive and I can heartily recommend it. It's a fit and forget item. The guy with the Nanni is Andre Balt and he is very pleased. He can be contacted at andrebalt at hotmail dot com.

I will stick with my engine for now and maybe just get another Yanmar since changing is a real job and most of the 2 cyl engines are just a little bigger than the Yanmar. More
weight etc and harder to squeeze in. But the 10hp Nanni is about the same size as the Yanmar. Andre went for a 14hp I think. But his Flicka is a non PSC one and there might be more space in the engine room. I don't know but he managed it.
